Mango - The king of fruits
Mango is known throughout the world
as 'king of fruit'. 'Mango' is derived from the word 'mankay' or 'man-gay'.
When Portuguese businessmen settled in Western India, they got the name
'manga'.
Mango in Hinduism
The importance of these is mentioned
in Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas. Mango as a fruit is a symbol of love and
fertility. The leaves of the tree are used in most religious and social
festivals of the Hindus.
Mango leaves symbolizes life
A "Purnakumbha" is a tank
filled with water, and with fresh mango leaves and coconuts, it is considered
the "staphna" of the puja. The pot is a symbol of the Mother Earth,
the water survivor, the coconut divine consciousness and the mango leaves are a
symbol of life. The whole "Purnakumbha" refers to Lord Lakshmi and
good luck.
This Buddha is sacred to Buddhism.
Because Buddha is believed to have created a large mango tree at the place
called Shravasti in his lifetime.
Jainism & Mango tree
Jain goddess Ambika traditionally
refers to sitting under the mango. In Hinduism, the perfect ripe mango is often
held by lord Ganesha as a symdol of attainment,regarding the devotees potential
perfection. Mango flowers are used in worship of Goddess of saraswati.

used in different Indian embroidery styles, found in Kashmiri shawls,
